Hardware Engineering Manager

£85,000 + Shares + Equity

UK Wide (Occasional office visits to Herfordshire)

Method Resourcing are partnering with a hardware-led technology business operating in the security and IoT space, to appoint a Hardware Engineering Manager with genuine end-to-end ownership of electronic hardware delivery.

This is a hands-on leadership role, not a software-first position and not a delivery-only management role. It suits someone who enjoys being close to the engineering, making technical trade-offs, and owning hardware decisions through to manufacture and lifecycle support.

The Role

The Hardware Engineering Manager will take ownership of a portfolio of embedded devices, leading hardware delivery from concept through to volume manufacture and long-term support.

Working closely with in-house electronics, firmware and product teams, as well as external manufacturing partners, you'll ensure hardware designs are robust, manufacturable, compliant, and scalable.

This role carries real technical authority, with responsibility for design decisions, supplier management, and long-term hardware strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ownership of electronic hardware delivery across multiple products
  • PCB design oversight, component selection, and BOM ownership
  • Applying DFM / DFA principles to enable reliable, cost-effective manufacturing
  • Managing manufacturing partners, PCB fabs, and tooling suppliers
  • Handling pilot builds, yield analysis, and production issue resolution
  • Managing component lifecycle and EOL risk
  • Supporting firmware integration and hardware/firmware alignment
  • Ensuring compliance with CE, UKCA, EMC, and safety standards
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing Electronics Engineers
  • Setting hardware standards, processes, and long-term technical direction

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in hardware engineering within a product-based environment
  • Strong understanding of PCB design, embedded systems, and manufacturing
  • Experience working directly with factories and component suppliers
  • Confidence making technical decisions with commercial and operational impact
  • Exposure to full hardware product lifecycles, not just early-stage design

Why Apply?

  • Genuine ownership of hardware decisions and outcomes
  • Hardware-centric organisation with in-house capability
  • Long-term product roadmap and stable private-equity backing
  • Equity participation for all employees (five-year cycle)
  • UK-wide location flexibility due to the specialist nature of the role
